‘Shadowhunters’ season two upped to 20 episodes

Posted on Updated on

At the Freeform Upfront yesterday, we got confirmation that Shadowhunters season 2 will not return until 2017.

While that’s a bit of a downer, here’s some good news: the upcoming season of the show will have 20 episodes. This puts Shadowhunters on par with the network’s super-popular Pretty Little Liars, which is also a YA adaptation.

Adweek’s Jason Lynch also noted that the show “is getting a lot of love” at the upfronts.

So excited to see more of the Shadow world!

The Nielsen ratings for January 13 are in, and Shadowhunters was the channel’s top series debut in 2 years. The 0.8 rating garnered by The Mortal Cup is an incredible start to the season.

From The Wrap:

The demon-killer debut earned 1.82 million total viewers, the best series premiere on the cable channel in more than two years. That same claim can be made in in 18-34 demographic, 18-49 age range, and 12-34 demo.

In addition, the show generated 1.1 million social media engagements, behind only Pretty Little Liars.

Congratulations to everyone involved with the show!
