August 2013: It’s The Mortal Instruments month!

Shadowhunters! It’s finally August 2013 and we’re closer than ever to watching the first movie in The Mortal Instruments franchise, City of Bones.


It’s been quite a wait for all of us since the first book was published way back in 2007. Here’s a quick run down of the timeline since then:

March 2007 – City of Bones published.

August 2009 – Cassandra Clare announces the movie in New York.

March 2010 – Jessica Postigo finishes the City of Bones script.

December 2010 – Lily Collins cast as Clary Fray.

May 2011 – Jamie Campbell Bower cast as Jace Wayland.

August 2011 – Director Scott Stewart dropped from the project. Harald Zwart on-board later.

October 2011 – I. Marlene King finishes rewrite of the script.

June 2012 – Jemima West cast as Isabelle Lightwood.

July 2012 – Robert Sheehan cast as Simon Lewis. Godfrey Gao cast as Magnus Bane. Lena Headey cast as Jocelyn Fray. Jared Harris cast as Hodge Starkweather. (yes, this was a crazy month!)

August 2012 – Kevin Zegers confirmed as Alec Lightwood. Filming for City of Bones begins in Toronto.

November 2012 – Filming finishes. First teaser trailer arrives.

March 2013 – Theatrical trailer arrives.

April 2013 – International trailer arrives.

May 2013 – City of Bones release date pushed up for the US by two days – August 21.

August 2013 – We’re here!
